Team Delhi Capitals head coach, Ricky Ponting, has stated that a lot of focus and concentration will be on the “overseas fast bowlers” in next week’s IPL auctions as the franchise have already set their eyes over the potential players. Ponting met the team management to discuss the team’s targets for the upcoming season. “We had several discussions over the last few months, and have spent a lot of time and efforts to make sure that we are well prepared” Ponting stated.
Ricky Pointing’s Point of View Regarding This IPl 2020 Auction:
“We can do all types of planning and use various strategies in the world, but at the auction table, the unpredictable always takes place.” Delhi Capitals Team might have not won a single IPL trophy yet but over the years, they always have some of the top cricketers in the world among their ranks. “There is going to be a lot of focus and attention on the fast bowlers as well as the overseas players in particular” the former Australian captain added.
“If we discuss the auction you should have to be very specific about the kind of players you want to have,” he said. “For example, we have three openers, so we do not need to search for another. You need to see the problem areas in your starting eleven, and essentially fill the gaps.” Ponting also told about the 2019 IPL season where Delhi was a stellar one, with the franchise ending up third in the competition after years of struggle and hard work.
“The semi-final match against Chennai was very much disappointing of course as we lose the match. But we played some great cricket, and still now, about 7-8 months after the tournament, I feel like there was a time when we were the best team in the competition. “I just had a past memory, how much fun everybody had. It was a quite different environment than most other IPLs that I have been a part of. The idea is to recreate that atmosphere and culture with our new and existing group of players.”
On the addition of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane to our tram, Ponting stated that “They are that kind of players who are likely to do well on the Kotla wicket, and of course, can bring outstanding experience with them.” Delhi Capitals Team will be present in December 19 auction in Kolkata with a price of Rs 27.85 crore and 11 slots are remaining, including the five overseas players.
