The hard-work of Rishabh Pant’s paid off well as he emerged out to be the third-highest run-getter from the Australian Test series by scoring 274 runs from three matches. His brilliant performance against Australia also included a valiant knock of 97 runs in Sydney and an impressive knock of 89 runs that helped team India win the series. In the recent England Test series, he scored 270 runs in 6 innings where scoring was not at all easy playing in Chepauk and Ahmedabad pitches.
We have seen Rishabh Pant batting throughout the series and he was fearless. He smashed boundaries & sixes for fun and fans clearly enjoyed that. This always reminds us of Virender Sehwag when we say fearless. Nobody can go for a six when you’re batting on 296 runs and complete a 300 unless he’s Sehwag.
Inzamam-ul-Haq Opines That Both Rishabh Pant’s and Virender Sehwag Has Fearless Attitude
Former Pakistan Captain, Inzamam-ul-Haq likens Rishabh Pant’s batting style to that of former Indian Opener Virender Sehwag, but left-handed. Inzamam opines that both the dynamic batsmen didn’t bother about the conditions, the bowlers, or the situation – but only played with their fearless attitude.
“Rishabh Pant, absolutely brilliant. After a long time, I have seen a player on whom pressure seems to not affect. Even if six wickets are down at 146, the way he starts his innings, no one does. He plays his strokes, irrespective of the pitch or how many runs the other team has scored. He is equally good against spinners and fast bowlers. I thoroughly enjoy watching him. It’s like watching Sehwag bat left-handed,” Inzamam said on his YouTube channel.
“I have played with Sehwag and he too didn’t bother about other factors. When he used to bat, it didn’t matter to him how the pitch behaved or what kind of bowling attack the opponent had. He just had to play his strokes, even if the fielders were on the boundary. After Sehwag, I have seen such a player, for whom nothing else matters,” he added.
Inzamam-ul-Haq says that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma may have replaced the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, but Pant has been one of a kind. At 23, the southpaw has already helped India on two trips to Australia and beat England at home. Add to it his centuries in Australia and England – the only Indian keeper to do so, he is destined for greater things and immense success.
“Ever since I’ve noted, it’s not that he’s only doing it in India, he did it in Australia too. He didn’t get to score centuries because he plays at his own pace. After a long time, I have seen such a player. India had Sachin, Dravid now they have Virat and Rohit. But the way he plays, it’s amazing. The kind of self-confidence he has is surprising. I haven’t come across a player like him in cricket,” the 51-year-old former skipper added.
