On 24 September 2007, India won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni after it defeated Pakistan in the final. Their journey to the world cup was like a fairy tale. They defeated Australia in the quarter-finals and entered into semi-finals against West Indies against whom they won the match and reached finals of the T20 World Cup. After defeating Pakistan in the finals, the young Indian team got the coveted trophy.
Now, this historic event is going to take place from October 18, 2020, in Australia. The teams have already been decided by qualifiers for next year’s tournament, After the 2019 World Cup, India has already played a couple of T20I series against South Africa and the West Indies. Team India is now all set to play three-match series against Bangladesh under the leadership of Mahmudullah in the T20i series which started on Sunday.

VVS Laxman, meanwhile, has analyzed the list of players’ who have chances of making the T20 World Cup squad next year. VVS Laxman has gone for 4 former cricketers Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah in the confirmed spots, which doesn’t look like a surprise. He also went in for Hardik Pandya but Pandya has recently undergone surgery. He needs a rest of 2 – 3 months.
The 4 of the players who are on the confirmed spot in the next squad of the T20 series have considerable experience. According to VVS Laxman, the former Indian wicket-keeper batsmen MS Dhoni may get a chance to play in the squad. Dhoni, the veteran player, has got shortlisted in Long Shot Category of VVS Laxman’s list which also features Dinesh Karthik.
