Indian Stars Who Missed ICC Events
Indian Stars Who Missed ICC Events: India hasn’t had the greatest of times in ICC events lately. They have lost at different stages of an ICC event post their Champions Trophy win in 2013. India has since then lost 4 ICC finals, and 4 semifinals, and once failed in the group stage. India recently lost the 2023 WTC Final as well. They are in fact on shaky ground for the 2023 ODI World Cup too. India is the sole host for the tournament but still, they aren’t outright favourites for the trophy. The team will once again miss out on a couple of key players to injuries.

We look at which Indian stars have missed ICC events owing to injuries:
#1 Sachin Tendulkar – CT 2004
India was the defending CT champion. They had made it to the finals in 2000 while they were joint winners in 2002. It was expected that India will easily cruise into the finals. They were placed alongside Pakistan and Kenya in the group stage. Only one team would qualify from each group. India made light work of Kenya and readied themselves for the big game. Losing the toss and being put into bat under overcast conditions, India stuttered and floundered. They were 28-3 at one stage and 73-5 later. India was eventually dismissed for 200.
Pakistan scraped their way through to a famous win. India clearly missed the presence of Sachin Tendulkar in this big game. It was the master blaster who had helped India stage one of its finest World Cup wins a year earlier against Pakistan. The tennis elbow injury had ruled Tendulkar out and his impact was telling.
#2 Yuvraj Singh – CT 2009
He was India’s most important white-ball player in the period between 2005-11. Yuvraj Singh was arguably the most dangerous limited-overs batsman during this phase. He was ruled out of the CT in 2009 owing to a finger injury. India’s chances appeared bleak leading into the tournament with their key player missing. It reflected in the results as India missed out on qualifying for the semis.
India had to win at least 2 out of their 3 league matches. But they once again lost out to Pakistan chasing a score of 303. Their game against Australia was washed out and even their West Indies didn’t prove to be enough. India crashed out in the group stage of CT for the third successive time.
#3 Jasprit Bumrah – T20 World Cup 2022
He has been India’s leader of the pack across formats ever since he made his all-format debut. Jasprit Bumrah played key roles in India’s recent historic wins in Australia and the series levelling effort in England. He is among the finest white-ball bowlers in the world. Bumrah certainly would have been a handful on the Australian wickets in the 2022 T20 World Cup. India quite dearly missed the magic of Bumrah, especially in the semifinal against England.
On short square boundaries at Adelaide, the Indian bowlers looked short on ideas. The English openers raced to the target without losing a wicket. Bumrah’s calming presence in the middle didn’t have any replacement. The team painted a sorry picture as they again lost an ICC knockout game.
