legendary Indian cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar is celebrating his 72nd birthday today 10th July. He is considered as one of the best opening batsmen in the history of Test Cricket ever – He has set many records on his name and one of his notable records was most Test centuries scored by any batsman and most Test runs during his career. Sunil Gavaskar has scored over 10,000 runs which include 34 centuries in 123 test matches. Coming to ODI format he has played 108 games and scored 3,092 runs and he was also a part of the 1983 world cup winning squad at the Lord’s cricket ground in London under the leadership of Kapil Dev.
Later in the year 2009, he had inducted into the ICC Hall of fame and he was awarded Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan for his tremendous contribution to Indian cricket. And now he is well known for his cricket commentary.
As the legend turns a year older – all the current and retired players have wished him on his 72nd birthday.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has tweeted stating – “1983 World Cup-winner. 233 international games. 13,214 international runs. First batsman to register 10,000 runs in Tests. Here’s wishing Sunil Gavaskar – former #TeamIndia captain & one of the finest batsmen to have ever graced the game – a very happy birthday”.
Even Sachin Tendulkar shared a video of him wishing Gavaskar and said – “Happy Birthday Gavaskar Sir. Wishing you a year full of good health and happiness.”
Former Opening batman batsman Sehwag has also wished him in a unique way and said – “Chal Phut. This is what the great #SunilGavaskar said to bowlers trying their best to get him out. Happy Birthday to the legend, Sunny Bhai. Aise hi fodte rahiye :)”
Even VVS Laxman wished him by saying – “Many more happy returns of the day to my childhood hero and inspiration, Sunil Gavaskar. He instilled courage and belief in many young Indian batsmen to face the best bowlers in the world fearlessly. Have a great day and year ahead, Sunny Bhai !”
