As Team India and the West Indies Team gear up to play the opening T20I three-match series at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Friday, it is a very important and special day for the former India skipper and the present Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) President Mohammad Azharuddin. It will be not only the first game under his administration but the North Stand will also be named after him before the match begins.
The IANS quoted an HCA official as saying that the stand above the V.V.S. Laxman field will be named after the former player and will most likely be inaugurated by the legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar.
Inauguration Of the T20I Three Match Series:
In the morning, there will be an inauguration ceremony that will be carried out by Mohammad Azharuddin. He will perform this ceremony on the stand, which is now known as the North Stand. This will be the one above the V.V.S. Laxman players field. Gavaskar could be the one who will be inaugurating the new stand in the name of one of the “India’s most successful captains,” the official said.
He stated that there will also be a small felicitation ceremony before the game begins, wherein all former Hyderabad players who have represented the country will be honored and will be felicitated for their marvelous contribution to the match.
“We will have a small ceremony before the game begins wherein along with the inauguration of the new stand, we will also felicitate the former players from Hyderabad who have donned the national cap and brought glory to our country,” he added.
India will look to once again try out as many young players as they can in this series as the team prepares for the upcoming World T20 series in Australia next year.
In fact, the captain of Team India, Virat Kohli, has made it clear that the current T20I ranking doesn’t matter for his team as they are looking to forward to experiment and pick the best 16 before they start their journey and win the WT20 trophy in 2020.
