CSK retained four players prior to the IPL 2022 big auctions: Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Moeen Ali. Interestingly, Dhoni was not the 1st CSK player to be retained, meanwhile former CSK player Robin Uthappa reacted on this retentions.
The ‘Men in Yellow’ chosen Ravindra Jadeja for their first option and the all-rounder will indeed be paid INR 16 cr. CSK captain Dhoni, on the other extreme, will be paid INR 12 cr.
Meanwhile, according to Robin Uthappa, Dhoni would have taken the choice to keep Jadeja as the first choice. Uthappa believes that since Dhoni recognizes Jadeja’s importance, Jadeja may eventually succeed Dhoni as captain of the CSK team.
Jadeja might be someone who could lead CSK in the future after MS Dhoni: Uthappa
“I am sure that is MS Dhoni’s doing itself. He knows the value that Jadeja has to the unit. I think from what I understand, Jadeja might be someone who could end up leading the squad in the future as well when MS Dhoni retires. They have given him the due he deserved,” said Uthappa.
Parthiv Patel agreed with Uthappa and believes that Jadeja will be the future CSK captain. Parthiv Patel also stated that Jadeja is a fantastic player, and finished by highlighting that whenever MS Dhoni departs, Jadeja would take over as captain of the ‘Men in Yellow.’
“He is the guy whom they are investing in to be the next captain. He has been terrific as a player. He has done well in Test cricket, we have seen him batting at No. 6 in ODI cricket as well. So I would like to see him take that responsibility. So I think Ravindra Jadeja will take over as captain once MS Dhoni decides not to play,” concluded Parthiv Patel.
