Everyone is labelling ENG favourites, but NZ has also played well across all formats: Inzamam
The former Pakistan batsman highlighted New Zealand’s recent efforts. He feels the Blackcaps are a solid squad across all 3 forms and have performed some decent cricket over the previous 2 years. In 2019, they came close to winning the 50-over World Cup and proceeded to win the first ICC World Test Championship.
“Everyone is labelling England favourites, and rightly so because of the way they have played in the last two years. But, at the same time, New Zealand has also played well across all formats. They are champions when it comes to the longest format and is ranked well in ODIs,” said Inzamam-ul-Haq.
Inzamam commented on the New Zealand squad’s performance, saying that the team has been extremely optimistic on the field since Kane Williamson stepped in as captain. He stated that they are playing really competitive cricket while yet being quite intelligent. He also lauded England and captain Eoin Morgan for their evolution into a white-ball powerhouse.
“They have performed well in this T20 World Cup as well. So, I won’t say New Zealand is an inferior team when compared to England. Ever since Williamson became captain, NZ’s playing style has changed very much. Their body language is very positive. They are playing aggressive cricket in a sensible manner,” Inzamam added.
