But there is one part of his game that everyone admires, and that is his extraordinary fitness.
Kohli openly revealed his fitness program, saying that he used to eat whatever he wanted without worrying about his health. He mentioned a Chinese restaurant in Delhi that he used to frequent, but he altered his lifestyle in order to reach the pinnacle of cricket.
“I was very chubby… I used to eat everything back then, chicken fried rice was my regular with chilly chicken,” added Kohli in a conversation with Dinesh Karthik.
Everything about my diet and training changed from the next day onwards: Virat Kohli
Kohli discussed an experience that altered his life and motivated him to work on his fitness. Kohli looked out the window after an IPL match in 2012 and was uncomfortable with the figure he had when playing cricket at the highest possible level. He went on to say that from that point on, he adjusted his fitness objectives and has never bothered looking back.
“Everything about my diet and training changed from the next day onwards and it became an obsession,” added Kohli.
The Indian captain also discussed the lowest period of his career thus far, which occurred during a tour of England in 2014, during which he was heavily beaten by bowler James Anderson. He goes on to explain that he began to suffer mentally after that period, but that it actually strengthened him and helped him recognize who is on his side and who does not.
“I went back home. I was down quite a bit. The great thing that happened at that time was I realized who is with me and who is not,” Kohli concluded.
