Sri Lanka Leading The T20Is Series
West Indies is currently touring Sri Lanka for three-match ODIs series and two-match T20Is against ‘The Lions’. Presently, Sri Lanka is leading the ODIs series with 2-0, as the side won the first and second ODIs match by 1-wicket and 161 runs respectively.
The tour started with a practice match on February 20 and the first ODIs match held on 22nd February. In the second ODIs, the West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard won the toss and opted to bowl. They invited the Sri Lankan to bat, to which the Sri Lanka team responded with a massive score of 345-8 in 50 overs.
Spinners Lakshan Sandakan and Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka took three wickets each and bowled out the West Indies batsmen for 184 runs with nearly 10 overs to spare.
Fernando And Kusal Led The Side To Win
Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis both hit hundreds for their side and helped Sri Lanka to get a 161-run victory against the Windies.
Their partnership of 239 runs recorded as Sri Lanka’s highest for the 3rd wicket against any team. They surpassed the 226-run partnership of Mahela Jayawardene and Marvan Atapattu.
Avishka Fernando showed some action with the bat and scored a huge score of 127 in 123 balls including 10 boundaries. He was awarded as the player of the match title for his amazing performance in the match. But later he was dismissed while playing a delivery of Alzarri Joseph.
Kusal Mendis made the second-highest score in the match by hitting 119 runs in 119 balls and later dismissed by the same pacer Alzarri Joseph.
Sri Lanka Innings
Sri Lanka started off terribly as the fast-bowler of West Indies, Sheldon Cottrell took two wickets in successive deliveries when Sri Lanka was on 9.
Dimuth Karunaratne who is the skipper of the team made only 1 run and was caught by Fabian Allen. Kusal Perera who was at no.3 position caught behind by Shai Hope in the first ball. But even after having a terrible start-off, the team managed to win the match.
