‘Humari galti thi’ –The Time When Deepak Chahar Regretted Listing Himself as an All-Rounder

However, the right-handed lower-order batsman doubts declaring himself an all-rounder rather than a bowler in the 2018 IPL selection. He was signed for INR 80 lakhs, whereas his younger brother Rahul Chahar was signed for INR 1.9 crores with Mumbai Indians (MI). The family was pleased for Rahul, but they believed that if Deepak had filled out the application as a bowler, he may have gone for a higher bid at the auctions.

‘Rahul’s name came early than Deepak in the auction’: Lokander Chahar (Deepak’s father)

“Humari galti thi (It was our fault). Deepak had filled the form as an all-rounder. The all-rounder category came late in the day. Rahul went as a bowler. Rahul’s name came early in the auction. Deepak came later”.

“By the time Deepak’s name was called, teams had exhausted a lot of the money otherwise Deepak would have got more than Rs 2 crores. We had an idea that Rahul would draw big bids. It was not a surprise or a fluke that he went for so much,” Lokander Chahar, Deepak’s father, spoke about the same in an Interaction.

It’s no secret that Chahar is focusing on improving his batting abilities. In the 2018 season, he also hit a few crucial runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, shortly before the auctions were expected to take place.

Deepak was batting well for Rajasthan before Injury: Lokander

Deepak Chahar’s batting talent was spotted by CSK captain MS Dhoni, who moved him to number 6 in a crucial run chase versus Kings XI Punjab. He hit 39 runs off just 20 balls, demonstrating his batting brilliance to the CSK planning.

Despite performing domestic games for Rajasthan, Lokander believes Deepak constantly improves on his striking. He also stated that just being multi-dimensional is more important than being strong at a single skill set.

“He was batting well for Rajasthan before he got injured after that tournament. But Deepak knows he can’t be a one-dimensional cricketer,” Lokander concluded.
