Virat Kohli completed ten years in International cricket in the ongoing calendar year. In this era, Virat Kohli has achieved all the milestones in figures a cricketer can dream of. India become the No.1 ranked Test team in the world under Kohli’s captaincy. In his decade-long international career, the Indian-skipper has already fixed a spot for himself amongst the greats with over 20,000 international runs and 70 tons in all international format. Virat Kohli has most double hundreds in Tests amongst Indians and is the leading run-getter in T20Is as well as in the IPL.
Harbhajan Singh Believes Virat Kohli is close to lifting an ICC trophy for Team India
India will be hosting T20 World cup in the next edition, India’s ace off-spinner Harbhajan Singh feels captain Kohli is not far away from lifting an ICC trophy. “Any captain would like to have that achievement. Winning the T20 World Cup in 2021 would be brilliant. It will not make Virat Kohli very big, he’s already a very big player, but yes it will add on to his legacy of being a World Cup-winning captain. With the kind of team we have, I don’t think Virat Kohli will leave without any trophies. The time is very near where Virat will be lifting the World Cup, maybe the T20 one or the next one,” Harbhajan said while speaking in India Today‘s show ‘Inspiration’.
Bhajji also alerted other Indian players, particularly batsmen, to get prepared for the occasion and ease the workload of Rohit Sharma and Captain Virat Kohli in the International Championships. “They have to stop relying on 2 or 3 players. Last World Cup we saw Rohit Sharma was the key player and Virat is always there. But you have to have more match-winners in your team. India needs to create more match-winners around Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to win the World Cup. These two might get out early in pressure matches and then you have to have other players who can fill that slot and have that belief in them to still do the job for Team India,” he added.
Virat Kohli was also the part of the Indian side which won the 2011 ODI world cup and 2015 ICC Champions Trophy. However India have not seen a lot of success in ICC tournaments post 2015 Champions Trophy. Virat Kohli lead team India for 3 tournaments and failed to grab a win any of them. India Lost in 2016 T20 Semifinals against West Indies and 2017 Champions Trophy against Pakistan and 2019 ODI World Cup Semi-final.
