Hanuma Vihari was among the biggest misses from India’s selection for the current two-match Test series versus New Zealand. The right-handed hitter has been a long-time member of India’s Test team since making his Test debut in 2018. Unfortunately, owing to the squad’s performer batting order, he hasn’t been a constant in the playing XI. In contrast, all 12 of Vihari’s Test outings have occurred on foreign territory, when India will not really care about having 6 batters. Here is all about what Zaheer Khan Speaks About Hanuma Vihari.
Zaheer Khan Speaks About Hanuma Vihari
While the talents of Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant were sidelined for the home Test series versus the Blackcaps, Vihari appeared to be in the team to start his first home Test. The selectors, meanwhile, shockingly did not have him in the lineup and instead selected him into India A for the 3-match informal Test series in South Africa.
It should be mentioned that India is planning a composed tour of South Africa later this month. As a result, the image was created that the selections wanted Vihari to adjust to the circumstances of the rainbow nation. Many others think that playing Test cricket would’ve been a perfect choice for the 28-year-old. Addressing the subject, legendary Indian bowler Zaheer Khan believes Vihari should ignore the outside distractions and concentrate on his game.
It might happen that Vihari isn’t a crucial part of India’s upcoming plans: Zaheer
“First of all, you need to see how many players already playing here (against New Zealand). Now, India plays 10-12 Test matches in a year. So, players, who are just playing the longest, would want to feature in every match. However, that’s not possible due to the competition within the team,” said Zaheer.
Zaheer went on to say that considering national selection would simply complicate matters for Vihari. As a result, he must concentrate only on performing in domestic and other competitions. “Although communication is a key, one can’t be absolutely clear when it comes to selection. It might happen that Vihari isn’t a crucial part of India’s upcoming plans,” opined Zaheer.
“So all Vihari can do is not to get frustrate from all these factors and focus on his game. He should look to improve on basics and perform in whatever opportunities he’s getting. You have to simplify things for yourself, not to complicate,” he added.
