South African Mickey Arthur is set to become as Sri Lanka’s new national cricket coach on a two-year contract with Grant Flower and David Sekar as his support staff. According to a report in ‘ESPNCricinfo’,
Flower will be Sri Lanka’s batting coach for the limited-overs format, while Sekar will be their new bowling coach. Sri Lanka’s current head coach is Chandika Hathurusingha. Australian Shane McDermott has already been roped in as the new fielding coach for the team.
On Wednesday, Mickey Arthur said that he was “disappointed and hurt” as he was axed as Pakistan’s coach following an underwhelming World Cup. Arthur, who has been linked with a move to England, said he had done his best with Pakistan which narrowly failed to reach the World Cup semi-finals.
Pakistan’s new coaching staff will be appointed after a four-member committee assesses the team’s performance at the World Cup, it said. Reports say Arthur is on the shortlist of names for the next England coach after Trevor Bayliss departs.
