India’s legendary cricketer, Kapil Dev, will turn 63 on January 6, 2022, and admirers from all across the globe will be offering their warm greetings. Sunil Gavaskar, India’s first World Cup-winning skipper, was desperate for India to win the current Test series in SA and make it an unforgettable evening on the occasion of Kapil Dev’s birthday. Here is India vs South Africa 2nd Test updates.
India vs South Africa 2nd Test
However, a win in the 2nd Test will be difficult for India, as the SA are slugging out in the 4th innings on their chase. The team headed by Dean Elgar still has 8 wickets in hand and will need only 122 runs to tie the series 1-1. Rain likely disrupts play on the 4th day, but the match is scheduled to end sooner, and there’s plenty of chance for a conclusion.
India have won very few Test matches here: Gavaskar
For a lot longer, India has failed to win a Test series in South Africa, and the closest they have been a 1-1 tie in 2010. With a powerful fast bowling assault, they had a great opportunity in the previous tour in 2018 but had to accept a 1-2 series loss. Therefore, the scene is set for the Indian side to make history this time. Gavaskar believed that a dominant victory for India on the 4th day would be the greatest possible gift for Kapil Dev.
“India has never won a series here. In fact, India has won very few Test matches here. The last time India came here in 2018, they won the one-day series but they lost the Test series 2-1. So this is going to be huge for India,” Gavaskar said in an interaction.
“And the way I look at it is, I mean, weather permitting… tomorrow happens to be the birthday in my view of India’s greatest cricketer – Kapil Dev. So, I think it will be a wonderful gift for Kapil from this Indian team. There are many admirers of Kapil Dev in this team. So from this team to Kapil Dev, that will be a fantastic present,” said Sunil Gavaskar.
Kapil Dev has played 131 Tests and 225 One-Day Internationals for India and is widely regarded as the finest all-rounder the country has ever produced.
