Gambhir: Hit Your Obsession For Six
India recalls its world cup winning moment today as it was on this day nine years back in 2011 India lifted world cup again after 28 years after winning it for the first time in 1983.
However, feisty batsman Gautam Gambhir who was a member of the world cup winning team, seems to be unhappy about one thing related to winning the cup.
He is irked by people’s obsession with Dhoni’s six, which took the team over the finish line. He said on his Twitter that the match was won by the entire team and not because of only Dhoni’s six.
The left-handed batter who played the most crucial role in the finals tweeted, “Just a reminder @ESPNcricinfo: #worldcup2011 won by entire India, entire Indian team & all support staff. High time you hit your obsession for a SIX.”
He was replying to a tweet by the website espncricinfo, which commented, “#OnThisDay in 2011, the shot that sent millions of Indians into jubilation.”
Dhoni made 91 runs from 79 balls and remained unbeaten to steer India to the target of 275 runs with ten balls remaining. He had chosen as the player of the match.
Gambhir’s Role In Final Very Crucial
India did not have a great start as Sri Lankan ferocious bowler Lasith Malinga picked up the two wickets of Virendra Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar and India looked like it was in trouble.
Gautam Gambhir then raised to the occasion and played an extremely valuable inning. His partnership of 84 runs with Virat Kohli, and 109 runs with MS.Dhoni took India closer to the victory.
He was out at 97; otherwise, it would have been a landmark century. India won the match, and as a result, the tournament after 28 years and the momentous achievement was possible because of the great performances of many players like Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, Virendra Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir in crucial matches.
