Faf du Plessis, the captain of South Africa, said that he will not take any drastic decisions about his future after South Africa was crushed by England in the four-Test series. South Africa lost the series 1-3 at the Wanderers in the final and fourth Test. Du Plessis is under heavy public scrutiny for both his captaincy and poor batting.
“I was feeling in the last while like you have pushed me that way,” du Plessis said at the post-match press conference when questioned if he would resign.
“I should not decide when you are feeling disappointed and emotional. I know it never appears like a good decision. Being far from cricket and far from all noises is like the time is off. I need to freshen up then for the T20s make a come back again,” he added.
Faf’s Performance In Last Nine Tests
Faf, as a one-day captain, was already removed once. In South Africa’s eight defeats in the nine Tests, he did not have a great outing with the bat with scores of 21, 20, 1, 19, 8, 36, 3 and 35.
While the Proteas were admittedly outplayed by Joe Root-led side in all three departments, experts and fans felt that du Plessis has been out of form with the bat.
“Being extremely disappointed I am sitting here and it is not hidden from me that my the coaching staff is disappointed and the fans must be disappointed,” he said.
Now, the three-match ODI series between South Africa and England is to be played soon.
