West Indies
The 2nd Test match of England Vs West Indies is at a fast turnaround and the bowling amount the fast bowlers of West Indies team did in the first Test match, it wouldn’t be that much easy for those bowlers to come back and performed the same way in the second Test match in just a gap of three days.
However, the team of West Indies wouldn’t think about changing their fast bowlers and most probably go with the same XI in the second Test match at Old Trafford.
Probable XI:
John Campbell, Kraigg Braithwaite, Shai Hope, Shamarh Brooks, Jermaine Blackwood, Roston Chase, Shane Dowrich (WK), Jason Holder (C), Alzarri Joseph, Kemar Roach, Shannon Gabriel
England
In the second Test match, Joe Root will be back to the captaincy role which means one player will have to vacant his spot for him, and most probably it might be Joe Denyl. The top-order batsman of team England, Joe Denyl again failed to give a good start in Southampton and provided the way Zak Crawley, who played at no.4 position.
Jofra Archer and James Anderson are obvious picks for team England in the fast bowling department, but Wood didn’t perform well at the Rose Bowl to justify his selection. Obviously, Wood is a long-term prospect, but in this second Test match, most probably Wood gets replaced by Broad.
Probable XI:
Rory Burns, Dominic Sibley, Joe Root (C), Zak Crawley, Ben Stokes, Ollie Pope, Jos Buttler (WK), Dominic Bess, Jofra Archer, Stuart Broad, James Anderson
Pitch Report:
In Southampton, the ball didn’t swing much. The ball did seam off the deck right through the match and it also bounced from a length. That put the batsmen in trouble sometimes, not much straight swing was on offer.
The Old Trafford pitch might provide a little bit more for the pace bowlers than the ball at the Rose Bowl did. So, England might bring Stuart Broad this time into the XI.
Although Broad is not as fast as some of the other fast bowlers of England, he is very skillful and can take advantage of the pitch.
Weather condition:
The first two days of the 1st Test match in Southampton were badly affected by rain, but in Machester, this might not happen. The weather reports say that the first day of the Test match will be cloudy, but the cricketers will play in bright sunlight for the next four days. It is hoping that the complete Test match goes unobstructed.
Match Preview:
West Indies:
- The outstanding performance of West Indies in the first Test match might have surprised many people, but it was not that much surprise, because if we look at their previous Test matches of West Indies, we can realize that in red-ball they are pretty good.
- In any condition, where the fast bowlers can get any kind of advantage, the West Indies team will always able to get the benefits out of it and be a potent force due to the quality that they have received in the fast bowling department.
- Before the 1st Test match in Southampton, the only concern was that in case the batsmen of the West Indies would be able to make runs. But they did according to the plan and got success.
England:
- The team England made a big decision to play without Stuart Broad although the veteran has the extraordinary records at home. In the last 8 years, it was the first time when Stuart Broad was not included in the playing XI and he didn’t hide the fact that he was upset about this thing.
- But, that decision was made by taking a long-term perspective. In the previous few years, Broad has not performed well outside the home and the team management and selectors picked Mark Wood due to his speed, which could play a major role for England in the next year Australia Ashes Series.
- So, the selectors wanted to give chance to Wood. But, now they can’t take the chance to lose the Test series in the home ground to just set up a bowling attack for the future.
