New Zealand opener Debutant Devon Conway name goes in the name of history books on Thursday as he registered the highest Test score on debut against England. He scored his 200 off 347 helping the visitors finish with 378 batting first at Lord’s cricket ground.
Devon Conway is only the second New Zealand player to score a double century on Test debut.
Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif tweeted on Thursday to praise the exceptional Debutant Devon Conway knock after the end of the second day. “Truly fairytale stuff. A double hundred on Test debut at the Lord’s. This man will definitely go a long long way.. Conway!” He tweeted.
On day 2 at Lord’s, New Zealand lost nine wickets with Dev Conway yet to score his double hundred against England. Neil Wagner was providing support from the other end and Conway finally reached the landmark with a massive six over fine leg.
Debutant Conway is the only second Kiwi batsman to score 200 in his maiden Test innings after Mathew Sinclair who achieved the feat in 1999 against West Indies.
Earlier on Wednesday when he scored 100, the South African-born Conway had joined Harry Graham (for Australia in 1893) and Sourav Ganguly (for India in 1996) is being the only non-English batsmen to hit a century on Test debut at Lord’s.
Dev Conway has managed to score 200 off 347 balls scoring 22 Boundaries and 1 six. Conway opened the innings with Latham and played with all the 10 batsmen. Henry Nicholls and Daniel Wagner added 61 and 25 runs respectively to help New Zealand to reach the score of 378 runs.
