David Warner looked at his brilliant best as he slammed a record-breaking 335 not-out on Day 3 of the ongoing Adelaide Test against Pakistan to help Australia post a daunting 589/3. Warner, who was massively criticized for his poor run of form in the Ashes 2019, recalled a special incident involving former Indian opener Virender Sehwag. The Aussie southpaw revealed what Sehwag had said to him during his early days in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
David Warner said that the swashbuckling Indian opener had said that he can be a better Test player than a T20 player. Sehwag and Warner had shared the dressing room while playing for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the early editions of IPL.
The Aussie opener had replied to Sehwag by saying that he is out his mind as the reporters present in the post-match conference burst into a laugh. Warner further said that Sehwag explained the scenario in Test cricket with slips, gully, covers all open with mid-off and mid-off fielders being up in the 30-yard circle while adding Sehwag’s word of wisdom always stood inside his mind and sounded very easy back then.

I got the opportunity to play for Delhi Capitals, a few years back in the IPL, and I met Viru (Virender Sehwag) over there and he sat down to me and I’ll quote him forever, he said, ‘I’ll be a better Test player than a T20 player’ and I told him that you are out of your mind, I don’t even play many first-class games.
“And he always said to me, ‘You have some slips and gullies, the covers are open, mid-wicket is there, mid-on and mid-offs are up, you just play in your way and you’ll get off to a flyer and sit there all day and picking up lofts’ and that has always stuck at the back of my mind. That sounded very easy when we were discussing that.” David Warner said after playing a record-breaking knock on Saturday as quoted by Republic World.
