In the first ODI match, which took place at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday (January 14), Team India managed to set a 256 run target for the visitors ( Australian team). The Australian openers, David Warner and Aaron Finch, together put on a record 258-run stand to take their team to a win without losing any wickets. Both of them scored centuries.
India will be facing the Australian Team in the second ODI today (Friday,17th January 2020) at Rajkot. Visitors have a lead of 1-0 in the ODI series.
We know that David Warner and Aaron Finch are among the best opening pairs in the world currently. Warner and Finch have been opening batting since 2014. In 59 matches until now, this duo has scored a combined 3050 runs at an average of 52.58. They together put on nine century and thirteen half-century partnerships, with their highest being (258) in Mumbai.
This, therefore, raised expectations among cricket fans if they would be opening for Australia in the 2023 World Cup which will be played in India. So, when a journalist asked David Warner about this, he wittily responded.
David Warner’s Reply :
David said both of them have to talk to their wives because they are almost 36 to 37 years old. Warner also added that he had 3 children. He sarcastically laughed at the question, saying that the 3rd ODI might be his last one(I hope that’s the last one).
Furthermore, he said that they would take one match at a time. For the time being, they want to concentrate on the 2nd and 3rd ODI matches.
Warner did express that he loved to continue being a part of the team. He also gave a credit to his wife (Candice Warner). He said that only because of her he was still able to play.
David and Aaron took Australia to their first-ever 10-wicket win which is India’s first-ever 10-wicket loss in ODIs since 2005. The pair have a high target for the second ODI taking place today.
