A 23-year- old South Africa opening batsmen added to the team squad for the upcoming 3-day ODI series against India. In the first announcement, he was not the part of squad due to his first-ball duck in the first ODI against Australia. When he stunned with his performance in second ODI with 129 runs off 139 balls, he was considered and added in 16 match squad.
Malan made his ODI debut on February 29 against Australia with a poor start but picked up in the second match and enabled South Africa to chase 272. For the opener slot, Malan will compete against Temba Bavuma who was sidelined by his hamstring niggle in series against Australia. The younger brother of Test batsman Pieter Malan also shared a brilliant partnership with top-order players of the team. “They were great partners to have in the chase,” said Malan.
“Proteas opening batsman, Janneman Malan has been included in the team’s ODI tour to India. They will now travel with a 16-man squad for the three-match series taking place in Dharamshala, Lucknow, and Kolkata,” Cricket South Africa said.
