# Ian Bishop – 2016 T20 World Cup final
England looked set to bag their second T20 World Cup title at the end of 39 overs in the 2016 T20 World Cup final. They had dominated the second innings restricting the star-studded West Indian batting lineup. West Indies needed an improbable 19 runs off the final over. Ben Stokes it must be had a relatively easier task with the ball in hand. Carlos Brathwaite was the one taking the strike and not Marlon Samuels who was batting on 85. Windies needed big hits early in the over. Brathwaite smashed one downtown, he smashed the next one over the off-side.
The equation suddenly came down to 7 off 4. David Lloyd was calling the over alongside Ian Bishop. Brathwaite smashed even the third ball for six. Lloyd handed over the proceedings to Bishop. Brathwaite sent another one soaring in the group winning the World Cup on the back of his final over brilliance. In what remains one of his most ‘remembered’ phrases, Bishop on air quoted, “Carlos Brathwaite, Carlos Brathwaite, remember the name!”. His broadcasting career saw a major upturn post this event thanks mainly to this iconic line!
# Harsha Bhogle – 2022 T20 World Cup
It was arguably the match of the tournament. India and Pakistan were playing their first match of the 2022 T20 World Cup and that too against each other. Pakistan huffed and puffed their way batting first to set a score of 160. India’s chase never got going. They were 45-4 at the halfway stage with Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya at the crease. India slowly started crawling their way back into the game as both Pandya and Kohli found their groove. The task though kept getting steeper as India needed 48 runs off the last 3 overs.
Kohli brought the equation down to 31 from the last 2 even as Pandya lost his rhythm. Haris Rauf was Pakistan’s standout bowler in the match. He was tasked with bowling the 19th over. None of the Indian batsmen looked comfortable against Rauf. The first four deliveries saw him concede just 4 singles. Kohli was the batsman on strike. India desperately needed a few huge hits. Rauf bowled one back-of-a-length delivery to Kohli.
The genius that Kohli is, sensed the occasion, he made room and hit a towering straight six. Harsha Bhogle on air quipped, “Kohli goes down the ground, Kohli goes out of the ground, that’s a sensational hit from Virat Kohli”. The packed 90,000+ crowd at the MCG went berserk. For Indians watching elsewhere, it was Bhogle’s line that summed up their experience!
