Peter Siddle, who is a former Australian cricketer, may have hung up his boots on his international career, but his fielding display shows that he still has some gas left within him.
The experienced pace bowler helped Adelaide Strikers restrict Sydney Thunders to 168 in 20 overs.
Siddle picked up two wickets in his four overs while conceding 30 runs. He could not stop the Thunders from winning the match. The Strikers lost narrowly by a 3-run margin.
Nonetheless, the most exciting moment of the match was Siddle’s fielding to effect a run out.
Cricket Australia reacts to Peter Siddle’s stunning no-look run out in BBL
Callum Ferguson pushed the ball to the covers in the 14th overs of the innings of Sydney Thunder. Ferguson tried to sneak a single, confusion followed, and in the process, Usman Khwaja eventually lost his wicket.
The fielder threw the ball to the end of the bowler where Usman Khwaja tried to get behind the crease. Siddle gathered the ball brilliantly and struck the bails deftly without looking at the wickets.
The dismissal was confirmed by replays and Siddle was surprised at what he had done at that moment. That dismissal was uploaded by BBL on their twitter and they captioned: “P SIDDY STOP IT! That’s the cheekiest of cheeky run-outs from the Strikers veteran! Khawaja out for 63.”
Cricket Australia wasn’t far behind and they soon came up with their hilarious tweet. They wrote: “Are you sure you want to retire @petersiddle403?!?! #BBL09.”
Peter Siddle had a fruitful career with the Baggy Greens, which saw him feature in 67 Tests, 20 ODIs and 2 T20Is where he was able to capture 241 wickets across all formats.
