BCCI To Decide IPL Fate This Week:
On Tuesday, the Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) will hold a conference call with the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises to explore IPL 2020 prospects. “BCCI and IPL franchise to hold a conference call next Tuesday to address the IPL 2020 cycle and way forward,” a source from the BCCI said.
The BCCI agreed on March 13 to suspend the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a precautionary measure in the light of the COVID-19 outbreak until April 15.
As concerns about COVID-19 continued to grow in the country, the BCCI had also asked their employees to work from home.
“The BCCI office has closed so that no meeting can be held in the hotel likewise so that they have decided to hold the conference,” the source added.
In India, the total number of COVID-19 cases has now risen to 223, including 32 foreigners, said Friday the Union Health Ministry.
For the infection in India, as many as 23 people were cured. The disease has claimed more than 10,000 lives worldwide.
Players Placed Under Isolation:
Following the outbreak of coronavirus infection, players who have returned from foreign countries after the tournament have been advised to be under isolation for a period of 14 days. This decision came in after, some players who returned from foreign country tournaments showed the symptoms of COVID 19. The decision was taken by the government of the respective countries of the players to ensure the infection does not get triggered due to mass gatherings.
All the domestic, national and international cricket schedules have been called off due to triggering of the infection. Due to this, the cricketing fraternities are left to think about the alternative steps which they would embark upon to manage the losses caused due to the cancellation of the tournaments.
