Three personnel of his support staff, R Sridhar, Bharat Arun, and Nitin Patel were also instructed to isolate. Arun and Sridhar’s results have returned back positive, and Patel has been placed in isolation until further instruction from medical staff.
The 5th Test, which is set to take place on September 10th, as a result of COVID circumstances all 3 members of the coaching team have been termed out. Indian players were gathered at the book launch, although their testing results were negative, thus they were permitted to play days 4 and 5 of The Oval Test match.
According to sources, the Indian side did not obtain prior clearance from the BCCI to participate in the tournament, which has upset the board. “Photos from the event have been shared with BCCI officials. The board will probe the matter. This incident has left the board embarrassed. The coach and the captain will be asked to explain the circumstances after the fourth Test at Oval. The team’s administrative manager Girish Dongre’s role is also under the scanner,” a BCCI official said.
BCCI scheduled to have a selection meeting for the T20 World Cup
The BCCI is in close communication with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to assure that the 5th Test to go well as per the schedule and without any problems. In addition, the Indian selectors are gathering to pick the team for the next ICC T20 World Cup, and the topic is likely to be considered at that meeting.
“There is a selection meeting for the T20 World Cup on Wednesday. Maybe the matter will be raised there,” the official added.
Following severe advice from BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who cautioned the players to avoid traveling to such crowded locations during the outbreak, Shastri and the teammates attended the book launch.
“This incident is all the more unsettling because BCCI secretary Jay Shah had written to every team member before the series, asking them to be cautious and refrain from attending crowded events. The action of the team hasn’t gone down well with the board,” the official said.
