Team Australia’s all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell, who took a break from cricket to deal with his mental health issues, is now all set to make his comeback in the Big Bash League. Glenn Maxwell, who stayed away from cricket during the T20I series against Sri Lanka in October, has now joined the pre-session camp of Melbourne Stars on Thursday and will lead the team in the ninth season of the tournament.
Maxwell Shared His Experience Regarding The Break He Took Due To Mental Issues:
Maxwell told the Sydney Morning Herald, “I was very much sure about when I decided to take a break. The Big reason behind why I decided to take time off is because I was mentally and physically break down. Eight months in the road, staying out of a suitcase that had been going on for four or five years. It all went off as time passed … You go through many emotions over the first few weeks during the break and especially at that first week, that was probably the hardest moment.”
Team Melbourne Stars head coach, David Hussey, said that it was very much exciting to have Maxwell again in their Stars team. He continued by saying, “We are very much happy to have Glenn in green and ready to lead our team with the upcoming big season. He is having extraordinary talent and an important member of our team but health and well-being should be given priority and he must be able to take a break away to concentrate on that.”
Glenn Maxwell took the first steps to make a comeback earlier this month by training with the Victoria Sheffield Shield squad. He also played for his club in Victorian Premier Cricket. The Team India skipper, Virat Kohli, had also extended his support to Maxwell after he decided to take a break from international cricket. The Indian skipper said that what the Australian player had done by accepting his concern is “Remarkable”.
The Team England all-rounder, Moeen Ali, in his statement, said that there was too much cricket being played at the moment because of which players are becoming mentally tired. “There is so much cricket played at this moment. Mentally, you become tired. You feel tired up doing the same monotonous routine like warm-up and other things while playing the game,” Moeen told IANS.
The Team Melbourne Stars will start their BBL league against the Brisbane Heat Team on December 20.
