Batters Who Could Score 300 In ODIs
Ishan Kishan’s blitzkrieg in the 3rd ODI against Bangladesh has started an interesting debate. The new rules of allowing just 4 players outside the circle from 11-40 overs in ODIs have opened up endless possibilities. Teams look to capitalize during the middle overs. Batters have wide open areas to access during this phase.
Maximizing aggression:
So unlike the earlier phase of teams waiting to hit out in the end overs, sides now prefer to hit out earlier. ODIs are now looked at as extensions of T20Is. There is a realistic chance of batters hitting the 300 mark in ODIs in the coming future.
We look at 3 batters who could score 300 In ODIs:
#3 Travis Head
He revitalized his career with a stunning Ashes in 2021-22. Travis Head clearly stunned England with his all-out attack approach. Head opened the innings for Australia along with David Warner in the series against England. Aaron Finch’s retirement from ODIs has opened the door for Head. He seemed to have grabbed the chance with both hands in his yet brief role as an opener.
Head in the second phase of his career seems clear in his mind to keep attacking right through. He is one of those rare left-handed top-order batsmen who has the ability to incisively clear the field. In small outfields, Head might be the surprise package who can notch up a triple hundred in ODIs.
#2 Ishan Kishan
He walked as a replacement for Rohit Sharma in the third ODI. Kishan got off to a decent start in the powerplay. India’s score read 45-1 in the first 10 overs. It was from hereon where Ishan Kishan took off. He reached his fifty off 50 balls. Kishan soon reached his maiden century off just 85 balls.
There was no stopping him as he raced to a double hundred off just 126 balls. It was the fastest double hundred in ODIs. Kishan also broke the record for scoring the most runs (177) in middle overs. He did all these while getting out in the 34th over. His innings showed what a batsman with an aggressive mindset can do if one bats right throughout.
#1 Jonny Bairstow
He is someone who was the first batter to buy into the Bazball philosophy. Jonny Bairstow stamped his authority in home Tests in England. Bairstow smashed consecutive centuries in the Tests against New Zealand and India. He opens the batting for England in ODIs. It is arguably his strongest format. Bairstow often takes the aggressive route opening the innings. He is someone who keeps playing in top gear. Bairstow can be counted on smashing down a triple hundred in ODIs.
