Strength And Conditioning Coach Nick Lee Was Also Tested Positive For COVID-19:
Bangladesh Opener Saif Hassan and Strength and Conditioning Coach Nick Lee tested positive for COVID-19, the Bangladesh Cricket Board reported on Tuesday (September 8). The Board’s medical team collected samples from the 24-member (17 players and 7 staff) party on Monday as the team prepares to leave for Sri Lanka on September 27.
By the way, Lee had previously posted positive results in Dubai on August 14, but returned negative results on August 23 after 10 days in isolation. He also completed a 14-day self-quarantine at his arrival in Dhaka prior to yesterday ‘s test.
“Our COVID-19 consultant is evaluating Lee ‘s case to decide if it is a new infection or a previous infection before consulting the management plan,” said BCB Sports Physicist Dr. Debashis Chowdhury.
According to Chief Selector Minhajul Abedin, 37 cricketers, including Test and High Performance Team members, scheduled to tour Sri Lanka would have to pass the Coronavirus test. The BCB had previously stopped individual training as part of a precautionary measure. Players and staff will start training at the Sher-e – Bangla National Stadium on 9 September.
BCB officials said that doors have not been closed to Saif or anyone else who might have been found positive in the coming days. “We will keep corona positive players under our intense surveillance, and we will test them again after a certain period of time. Their future will depend on the next test,” the official said.
BCB is organising a week-long residential camp in anticipation of the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. The residential camp is scheduled to begin on 21 September, while the BCB will perform COVID-19 tests in four phases, with the remaining three scheduled tests on 18, 21 and 24 September, with the final test scheduled 72 hours prior to the flight to Sri Lanka.
