India’s tour to Australia
It could be too soon now to discuss India’s tour to Australia. A three-match ODI series between Australia and India is to take place before the first of the four Tests begin. It has, however, been the Australian summer of 2020 that Down Under’s captain, Tim Paine, has already called “mouth-watering”. It’s not like any revenge series for them, Paine said in the backdrop of a 2-1 series loss in 2018-19.
Looking forward to the tour
Now, it’s Indian captain Virat Kohli’s turn to look forward now. Kohli has gone a step further than Paine and argued that the Test series could be the “best series we’ve ever seen in the past five to six years,” partly because they expect the hosts to mount a tougher challenge in terms of batting.
By winning last year, it gives a lot more confidence going back said the Indian captain in Mumbai on Monday. This time the series is going to be different, in terms of the opponent team’s batting challenging Indian bowlers. “Fairly, last time around, the players were not that experienced”, added Virat Kohli.
Reiterated for day-night Test
Virat Kohli also expressed his willingness to play a day-night Test in Australia, something India wasn’t eager on doing on its last tour there. Australian Cricket CEO Kevin Roberts has already confirmed about India’s tendency to play a pink-ball Test this time around, and how the possibility of India making the World Test Championship finals allows more leeway for a day-night Test on the tour.
Virat confident ahead of the tour
Captain Virat Kohli was pretty happy with how the day-night Test with Bangladesh was played. The team is ready and up for the challenge whether it’s Gabba or Perth. It doesn’t matter to us, as the squad has skillset as a team. They are confident now about competing against any team in the world, anywhere, and in any format of the game. Whether it’s the white ball, a red ball or pink ball, they are ready to play anything, added Virat.
