Former Indian cricketer Ashish Nehra has unforgettable moments in his 18-year illustrious career. He had a memorable comeback into the Indian team at the end of his career. However, another incident involving Nehra was fresh in the minds of fans when MS Dhoni was abused by him during a match against Pakistan in 2005 in Ahmedabad.
Pakistan had got off to a good start with 316 runs to equalize the series. And the left-arm pacer created an opportunity in the fourth over of the inning. Shahid Afridi made a full delivery from Ashish Nehra to get the ball between Dhoni and Rahul Dravid, who was standing at the slip. As soon as the opportunity arose, the bowler abused the wicketkeeper with utter despair.
Recalling the incident, the 38-year-old admitted he was not proud of his actions in the match. As far as the game was concerned, Ashish Nehra could not even get a wicket in the 75-run partnership in nine overs, as the visitors went on to equalize the series from the last delivery of the innings.
“In a video that went viral, I abused at MS Dhoni after Shahid Afridi’s bat went on the first slip between Dhoni and Rahul Dravid. People are assuming that it comes from the Vizag match, but the event is from the fourth ODI in Ahmedabad. However, I have to admit that I am not proud of my behavior”.
“I had been hit a six by Afridi off the previous ball. There was the usual pressure of the India-Pakistan match. All of a sudden, I created an opportunity and missed it. I lost my patience. But that does not justify my behavior,” said in an interview.
Video went viral because it has Dhoni in it, says Ashish Nehra
Besides, Ashish Nehra revealed his usual humor, saying that the video on YouTube has gone viral because it has a personality like MS Dhoni. He also recalled the award given to Virat Kohli in his childhood days, which is also famous because of the Indian captain, and he has nothing to do with it.
“This video is still popular because it has Dhoni. It’s like my old movie where Virat Kohli is awarding a kid award. The film is famous because it has Kohli in it, not because of me. I know that someday my kids will watch that video clip and explain why I did that! Ashish Nehra added.
