After India lost its first-ever T20I match against Bangladesh in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley stadium, the Indian wicket-keeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was criticized a lot for his performance and also his DRS calls. Expectations of Indian fans’ expectations are quite high because he is being compared with MS Dhoni, the former Indian captain, and wicket-keeper. The 22-year-old was trolled badly after the match.
The Australian former cricketer Adam Gilchrist wants Indian fans to avoid comparing him with MS Dhoni. He also advised Rishabh Pant not to ever try to become Dhoni but be the best version of himself.
On the sidelines of a promotional event by Tourism Western Australia, Gilchrist said, “I’m not big on comparisons, like I have said before. I think Indian fans shouldn’t be trying to compare him to Dhoni. Dhoni has set such a high benchmark. One day someone might match it but it is probably unlikely.”
He added, “Rishabh looks like a very talented young player just don’t put too much pressure on him it’s too early to expect that he is going to produce Dhoni like performances every day.”
He also advised, “My advice to Rishabh Pant will be: learn everything you can from Dhoni. Don’t try to be Dhoni just try to be the best Rishabh Pant you can.”
