The T20 World Cup 2021 saw many impressive performances. Players who were expected to struggle in UAE exceeded expectations. They put in performances that attracted a lot of eyeballs. These players will vie a lot of eyeballs during the IPL 2022 mega auctions.
A certain bunch have been flying under the radar for quite a while. But they can certainly expect a pay hike come this mega auction.
We look at 5 such players who might earn real big in the IPL 2022 mega auctions:
#5 Rassie van der Dussen
Rassie van der Dussen is arguably South Africa’s most important batsman. He beautifully carried the batting on his shoulders. RVD as he is popularly called was Rajasthan Royals’ standby player last season. But owing to the player retention rule, it will be difficult for RR to retain him. He will be on the watchlist of many franchises. RVD seems to be a natural successor to the genius, AB de Villiers. Don’t be surprised if he sets the auction and the IPL on fire.
#4 Charith Asalanka
Charith Asalanka proved to be a revelation in the World Cup. His knock of 80 against Bangladesh was one of the finest in the tournament. Asalanka was Sri Lanka’s highest run-scorer in the World Cup. He looked great against both pace and spin. Asalanka will be a handy middle-order option who could even finish the innings. He will be on the radar for many franchises.
#3 Aiden Markram
Aiden Markram’s game has improved remarkably in the past year. He was in sublime form in the World Cup. Markram played the situation wonderfully well mixing adventurism with caution. He went berserk against England in the league stage smashing bowlers to all corners. Markram is a solid captaincy candidate too. Expect him to fetch good numbers this auction.
#2 Adam Zampa
Adam Zampa was arguably the ‘player of the tournament’. It was his spells right throughout that kept Australia in the hunt. His fiver against Bangladesh was the cornerstone on which Australia qualified for the semis. Zampa kept the kiwi batters under check in the finals. He will be the most sought-after wrist-spinner in the IPL mega auctions.
#1 Mitchell Marsh
Mitchell Marsh for too long has under-utilized his potential. There has been no doubt about his talent but his career has been riddled with injuries. The series against West Indies earlier this year proved to be a game-changer for Marsh. He was asked to bat at number 3 and he was the only batsman who could come to terms with run-scoring.
Nobody expected Australia to compete but it was Marsh’s powerful performance with the bat that instilled confidence in them. Marsh put in his greatest performance in the World Cup finals. IPL teams will be gunning for Marsh in the auctions.
