Here are the top 5 cricket players who can become the captains post mega auctions IPL Mega auctions are round the corner. Teams are prepping up for the big day. The two new teams have an additional draft to work on. They will get a chance to pick 3 players each from the draft. Both these teams can pick 2 Indian and 1 overseas player each. We will discuss about the IPL new teams captains, and who can be the captains post mega auction
As many superstar players have been released into the players’ pool, it makes the draft and mega auctions even more interesting. Teams will be keenly looking at a few players who could be their eventual captains.
We look at 5 players who can become captains post the auctions:
#5 Faf du Plessis
Faf du Plessis was one of CSK’s main players over the years. He played a vital part in CSK’s twin wins in 2018 and 2021. Faf in fact was the player of the match in the IPL finals (2021). He is an able leader who led the South African team admirably over a significant period. Faf is still as fit as ever. He easily has 2-3 years of cricket left in him. Faf can lead any team for the next cycle.
#4 Eoin Morgan
Eoin Morgan led KKR admirably in the past 2 seasons. He took KKR to the IPL finals in 2021 despite them languishing at the bottom for the first half of the league. Morgan is a champion captain who transformed the England team. It was under him that England won its first ODI World Cup in 2019. KKR couldn’t retain Morgan owing to retention rules. But he will be the Wishlist of a few teams.
IPL New Teams Captains & Who Can Be Captains
#3 Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer is one of the more underrated IPL captains. He metamorphosed a stagnant Delhi team. Iyer was handed Delhi’s captaincy midway in 2018. The team was in shambles in just the first season of a 4-year cycle. Iyer credibly led the side and along with Ricky Ponting took Delhi to the playoffs in 2019. They went one better in 2020 when they made the finals for the first time.
But an untimely injury ahead of the 2021 season, ruled him out of the first leg of the season. DC handed Rishabh Pant the captaincy job and strangely didn’t hand it back to Iyer once he was fit for the 2nd leg. Iyer had every right to feel short-changed. He has left the Delhi terrain for greener pastures. IPL teams sure will have their eye on this man.
#2 David Warner
David Warner is arguably one of the big names who has been released ahead of the auctions. Warner is an IPL legend. He has been a proven performer for SRH in all seasons barring the last one. Warner led to IPL glory almost singlehandedly in 2016. He finished with 848 runs that season, 2nd highest that season. Apart from this, he thrice won the orange cap.
There is little that Warner didn’t do with SRH and for them. But his sacking came as a big shock for the fans. IPL teams will have a hungry Warner in their mind for captaincy.
#1 KL Rahul
KL Rahul is undoubtedly the biggest name to have been released. He was Punjab’s one-man army. But things couldn’t work out between the two parties. Rahul has set high goals for himself heading into this mega auction. There is a huge possibility that Rahul might break every possible IPL record heading into the auctions. Teams won’t mind shelling out huge money for a player who is possibly the most happening T20 cricketer at the moment.z
