MR-W vs MS-W Match Highlights: Last Over Thriller
Melbourne Stars defeated Melbourne Renegades in the Melbourne derby thanks to Annabel Sutherland’s heroics in the last over. Stars’ prospects of winning the chase of 149 decreased as they needed 23 from the final over. However, Sutherland, who was batting at 41 at the time, hit three sixes in a row to take the opposition by surprise. As a result, the final two deliveries only required two runs, and Stars easily reached their destination.
Both sides entered this game with losses from the previous day, and Renegades suffered an early setback when Chamari Athapaththu went down for a duck. Josephine Doolan had to save the innings as Sophie Molineux left for a duck as well. Sarah Coyte scored a fifty and then two sixes at the very end to bring the total close to 150. Before Sutherland’s explosion, it appeared throughout the most of the pursuit that the total would be sufficient to secure a victory.
MS W VS MR Match Update 1st Innings
In the first innings, Melbourne Renegades did not have a good start. They lost Atapatthu in the very first over. Hayley and Dooley had a partnership for the 2nd wicket but that did not last long as Matthews lost her wicket soon. Dooley and Webb were then the only batters who scored 20+ scores. Rest, the story from previous matches continued and Renegades once again did not show any contention with the bat. The team still scored 148 runs for 8 wickets.
It was an all round performance from Sutherland who also took 3 wickets with ball. The best bowler though was Sasha Moloney who took 4 wickets. Kim Garth took 1 wicket.
MS W VS MR Match Update 2nd Innings
After losing wicket from time to time, Melbourne Stars’ Sutherland once again took the responsibility on her shoulder. She was backed by Heath’s 31. Sutherland thus went on to score 62 off just 29 balls. 21 of these came in the last over.
Though Renegades bowlers tried their best to control the Stars. They did the job pretty well until last 2 overs. But they lost it in front of Sutherland. Sarah Coyte (3) and Hayley Matthew were the only 2 wicket takers for the side.
