The Delhi Capitals’ IPL 2022 playoff hopes have been wrecked. Rishabh Pant’s men went on to beat the underperforming Mumbai Indians in a must-win encounter to get to the last 4. Unfortunately, due to multiple fielding and decision failures, DC was unable to win the race, and MI finished the season with a win. Furthermore, MI’s five-wicket victory also ensured that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) advanced to the playoffs. Here in this article, we have talked about DC vs MI Match Highlights.
Despite winning the toss and electing to bowl first, DC had made a poor start to the innings, losing their in-form opener David Warner 5 (6) for Daniel Sams. Jasprit Bumrah removed Mitchell Marsh for a golden duck. Prithvi Shaw and skipper Rishabh Pant worked together to consolidate the innings, but they were unable to sustain the momentum but scored a respectable total to their name. After getting 24 runs in 23 balls, Prithvi Shaw dropped his wicket to Bumrah.
Sarfaraz Khan was also removed for 10 runs off 7 balls against Mayank Markande. Before being removed by Ramandeep Singh, Rishabh Pant gained some confidence and hit 39 runs off 33 balls. Rovman Powell sustained the momentum by hitting the ball hard for 43(34), including 4 sixes and one four before being handled by Bumrah. Axar Patel also managed to score 19 runs off 10 balls, hitting 2 maximums.
However, the top-tier batsmen had a poor effort, falling short in quick order. Eventually, after dropping 7 wickets in 20 overs, DC set a target of 160 runs for MI. Bumrah had a three-wicket haul, Ramandeep Singh had two wickets, while Daniel Sams and Markande each had one wicket seemed consistent for MI.
MI had another slow start in their run chase of the good total, as opening batter Rohit Sharma was bowled for 2 runs by Anrich Nortje. Ishan Kishan and Dewald Brevis remained steady for the team, forming a crucial combo. The pair added 51 runs during their overall partnership. Ishan Kishan hit 48 off 35 balls, including three fours and 4 sixes, before being caught by Kuldeep Yadav.
Shardul Thakur bowled Dewald Brevis for 37 runs off 33 balls. Nortje removed Tilak Varma for 21 runs off 17 balls. Tim David, who scored 34 runs off 11 balls, was caught ahead of the opening ball off Shardul Thakur, but Pant did not appeal the call. He forced DC to suffer from his quick-fire innings, thus concluding the Capitals’ season.
Ramandeep Singh made a much-needed contribution to the team, scoring 13 runs in 6 balls to shift the balance in MI’s favor. MI finished the season with just 4 victories, whereas Pant’s side finished fifth, almost missing out on a playoff position.
