The final 16 for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 is finally decided! After defeating the United States and Papua New Guinea in the semifinals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier B, respectively, Netherlands and Zimbabwe secured their spots in the ICC T20 World Cup.
Zimbabwe and Netherlands won their respective semifinal matches on Friday to claim the remaining two open spots for the T20 World Cup in Australia this October. Zimbabwe and the defending tournament champions Netherlands extended their unbeaten streaks at the T20 World Cup Qualifier in Bulawayo. The Netherlands will be participating in their fifth T20 World Cup, while Zimbabwe will be making their sixth participation and their first since 2016.
After restricting the USA to 138 in 19.4 overs, the Dutch defeated them by seven wickets in their semifinal match, while Zimbabwe defeated the tenacious PNG by 27 runs. The choice of Zimbabwe, the host nation of the tournament, to bat first paid off. The local crowd went berserk as Zimbabwe confirmed their participation in the major tournament in Australia.
In the T20 World Cup Qualifier final on Sunday, Zimbabwe and Netherlands will square off to decide the final pairings for the tournament’s first round in Australia. The eventual victor will play in Group B with West Indies, Scotland, and Ireland during the first round in Hobart. The loser of the grand finals will travel to Geelong and play against teams from Namibia, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates.
