Happy Birthday Jacques Kallis
Jacques Kallis, a legendary cricket player from South Africa, is turning 47 today. With 25,534 runs scored across all formats and a staggering 577 wickets taken. He is regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of the sport.
Amazing all-rounder
Few cricketers in history have been as adept at both skill sets as Kallis, who is known for his lethal prowess with both bat and ball. Although Kallis didn’t play much Twenty20 cricket, he did represent Royal Challengers Bangalore during the first IPL season.
The Proteas cricketer competed in the T20 format for teams like Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel, Sydney Thunder, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders, and others.
Records
In October 2005, at the ICC Awards. Kallis received the ODI Player of the Year and Test Player of the Year awards. He amassed 485 runs throughout the 2007 World Cup, making him South Africa’s leading run-scorer.
Although it took Kallis 15 years of international cricket matches. Before he scored his maiden double-century in a Test match, the wait was well worth it.
In the history of Test cricket, only four players Sir Donald Bradman, Mohammad Yousuf, Gautam Gambhir, and Kallis—have scored centuries in five straight games. Kallis accomplished this feat in the 2003–04 season.
Retirement
In July 2014, Kallis ceased playing all kinds of international cricket.
Jacques Kallis Charity work
To merge the academic and life skills programs of current school structures with financial and mentoring help from Jacques Kallis, the Jacques Kallis Scholarship Foundation was created in Kallis’ benefit year.
Currently, the Jacques Kallis Scholarship Foundation supports two boys from Pretoria Boys High School, two from Maritzburg College, and two from Selborne College. Mark Boucher and Andre Nel, two well-known cricketers from South Africa, are among the South African celebrities and athletes whom Jacques Kallis invites to his annual fundraising events for his Foundation.
Coaching career
In June 2015, Trevor Bayliss left his position as head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders to take the helm of the England cricket team. Kallis also named head coach of the franchise in October 2015. Kallis also served as KKR’s batting coach during the 2015 Indian Premier League season.
In December 2019, Kallis also served as the South Africa national cricket team’s batting advisor. In 2020 he became England’s national cricket team’s batting consultant.
