The CSA published the men’s international schedule for the 2022–23 home season, which includes South Africa hosting England, the West Indies, and the Netherlands in the summer of 2022–23.
The World Cup Super League season kicks out in January-February with a three-match ODI series against England. The West Indies travel in South Africa to play two Test matches in February and March. This will be Dean Elgar’s team’s final match in the second World Test Championship. They will play a three-match bilateral ODI and T20I series in March.
The Netherlands will travel back to South Africa to complete the three-match series (part of the Super League) that was initially set for December 2021 but was postponed owing to the Omicron form of the Covid-19 outbreak. The series will consist of two one-day internationals (ODIs).
Why South Africa is eager to play?
Only eight games remain for South Africa, who are now in 11th place on the standings and outside the automatic qualification zone: three against India in a current series, three against England, and two against the Netherlands. They are skipping three ODIs in Australia that were supposed to take place in the middle of January in order to have all of their elite players available when the SA20, on which the CSA is currently concentrating, begins.
Venues for the series
The England ODIs will be played at Bloemfontein and Kimberley, two places without SA20 franchises, while the SA20 will be held at the nation’s premier facilities in Cape Town, Paarl, Johannesburg, Centurion, Durban, and Gqeberha. The Women’s T20 World Cup, which will be held in South Africa in February 2023, will thereafter take place in Newlands, Boland Park, and St. George’s Park, moving the West Indies Tests to the Wanderers and SuperSport Park, which will also host the T20Is. East London and Potchefstroom will host the ODIs, while Benoni and Johannesburg will host the Netherlands matches, including the ODI on Pink Day.
What officials said
CSA CEO Pholetsi Moseki talked about the schedule. He said, “CSA is thrilled to host England, West Indies, and the Netherlands. all worthy opponents, in what is billed to be an exciting summer of international cricket. This is principally good news to our fans who have been starved of the blend of cricket on offer at stadiums since the 2020 pandemic. These bumper fixtures confirm that cricket in South Africa is indeed open for business.
“As we look forward to hosting these cricketing powerhouses, we invite our fans to swell the stadiums in numbers to support the Proteas as they lock horns with the best in the world,” He added.
