Injury Update: India finally has good news in terms of injury recovery. Jasprit Bumrah, a top pacer, is almost back to full health. He has started bowling again at the NCA and will return for the home New Zealand series. The physios are hopeful that Bumrah will even play in the early-January series against India and Sri Lanka. Ravindra Jadeja is the other injured talent who is almost back to normal. After having knee surgery, the all-around player is healing. After evaluating his injuries, a decision will be made regarding him. But it’s probable that he’ll come back for the Sri Lanka series.
Jasprit Bumrah Recovering Well from Injury
Before the T20 World Cup, Bumrah made a short comeback in the Australia series at home. But while touring with England in July, he made his lower-back ailment worse. Both the T20 World Cup and the Asia Cup 2022 were missed by him.
After the prolonged absence, he is now almost fully recovered. As he continues to regain his full health, Jasprit Bumrah is bowling aggressively. India suffered greatly as a result of his problematic back. India labored without him and lost to England in the T20 World Cup quarterfinals.
A BCCI official said, “Jasprit is doing well. He has resumed training. He will be a match-fit soon. Whether he will be picked for Sri Lanka series is a question for selectors. But as things stand, he can return for the Lanka series. But if the selectors want to delay, then he is a sure shot for the NZ series.”
Ravindra Jadeja Injury Update
Since the Asia Cup, the other Team India star Ravindra Jadeja has also been sidelined. After suffering an unexpected injury during a training session on an off day, Jadeja left the Asia Cup after the first two games. In Mumbai, he had knee surgery. He was chosen for the Bangladesh Tour, but he was unable to recuperate in time.
The same BCCI official talked about Jadeja’s recovery from a knee injury. He said, “Jaddu will report back to the NCA in the next couple of weeks. He wasn’t fully fit for the Bangladesh series. Once he resumes full training, we will know where he stands. The physios will assess his injury and take a call on his return. At the moment, it is difficult to say whether he will be able to return for Sri Lanka or New Zealand series. But we are certain, he will be available for the Australia series.”
Final Call
Bumrah is not expected to play in the T20 series against Sri Lanka, though. Jadeja’s participation in the T20s will be decided by the new selection committee. However, both are anticipated to play the ODIs due to ODIs taking precedence. As India T20 Reboot goes into full force next month, selectors will instead test out indigenous sars in the T20s.
