IND vs BAN Highlights 1st Test Day 1
The first test between India and Bangladesh has started in Chattogram. India won the toss and elected to bat first. Batting through Day 1, India has scored 278 for 6 at stumps. Highest runs were scored by Cheteshwar Pujara (90) followed by Shreyas Iyer (83*) who is still in the middle. Let us look at the IND vs BAN Highlights 1st Test in detail.
Let’s find out what happened IND vs BAN TEST 1 DAY 1
IND vs BAN TEST 1 DAY 1: Pujara, Iyer Rescue India from early Embarrassment
India successfully won the toss, however the majority of their batters were struck by loose balls, failing to build on their successful start. At 48/3, Bangladesh actually had the visitors in complete control. A comeback from Pant (46 off 45) ignited a last-ditch effort that was bolstered by a strong century stand between Pujara and Iyer. The India No. 3 was unlucky to miss out on a well-earned century, whereas Iyer’s performance has been aggressive but extremely lucky.
It was an immensely gratifying display of batting from Pujara and Iyer. Pujara missed his century by 10 runs as he got out on 90. Replacing him in the middle came Axar Patel who lost his wicket on the last ball of the day on a big 0. India would have appreciated it if they didn’t lose that wicket.
IND vs BAN TEST 1 DAY 1: Bangladesh Bowlers Strike on Time
The star bowler for Bangladesh was Taijul, who controlled the runs and made the ball spin sharply. Ebadot worked extremely hard as well, but he didn’t have the luck he deserved. Taijul took 3 wickets for the team where he dismissed biggies like Gill, Pujara and the man himself Virat Kohli. The captain, KL was dismissed on 22 by Khaled Ahmed. Rest two wickets of Pant and Axar were taken by Mehidy Hasan. Although the track hasn’t been particularly challenging for batting, things could become more challenging as the game goes on because the ball started twisting on the first day itself and had a fluctuating bounce. The Chattogram pitch does, however, typically ease out, so at this stage, the hosts would undoubtedly be pleased.
IND vs BAN TEST 1 DAY 1: Match Analysis
A thrilling day of cricket in a test match. The day’s play appears to have ended with an even split of the honors, though Bangladesh would have been slightly happier.
Shreyas Lyer is still in the game for India at position 82, looking strong against spin and doing well to keep the shooters at bay. It doesn’t appear to be a day one pitch at all given the lack of bounce. There is good turn as well, but that’s not a problem.
In the last hour of the day, Bangladesh has fought back, and with vigour! It indicates they had a strong day’s beginning and end, and if they had held onto two catches. They might have been in a lot better position now (they also had a third chance but that was really tough). Probably due to his injury, Shakib didn’t bowl much today. The hosts are hoping he will bowl more in the coming days.
