England Squad For 5th Test: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has unveiled the England squad for the 5th Test match against India, which will begin on June 1 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The one-off Test, which was postponed last year due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the Indian camp, will now have a fifteen-member squad, according to the ECB.
England kept 14 players from the team that defeated New Zealand in a three-match series, handily. Sam Billings has taken the place of Ben Foakes, who tested positive for COVID-19 during the third Test against the Kiwis.
Billings told Sky Sports prior to the start of the last day of play at Headingley that he is already enjoying the new mood surrounding the England team despite having worked under Brendon McCullum at Kolkata Knight Riders.
Jos Buttler, who will lead England in white-ball matches and has been in excellent form wasn’t considered for the Test series against New Zealand because of his mediocre red-ball performance.
According to new captain Ben Stokes, England will approach their batting with the same aggressiveness as they did in their 3-0 series victory over New Zealand in the rescheduled test against India on Friday. England has gained instant benefits from a new era under Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum with a clean sweep of their three tests against New Zealand.
For India, Virat Kohli and other star hitters have not been doing well. In addition to Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul was also ruled out due to injury. After contracting Covid, the Indian captain is presented in isolation. The team now includes Mayank Agarwal as a backup.
