Emma Lamb, a young all-rounder for England, was chosen as the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for July 2022 in recognition of her outstanding recent play. In order to win the monthly prize ahead of teammate Nat Sciver and Indian seamer Renuka Singh, Lamb dominated England’s three-game ODI series against South Africa in the previous month.
Lamb was surprised to have beaten the other nominees for the prized monthly award despite having only seven games of international experience to her record. She said, “It’s very exciting to have been awarded the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for July. I’m very happy to have earned my spot at the top of the order in the Test and ODI team and it’s been brilliant to be able to score some runs and help the team win.
“Everyone in the squad contributed to our multi-format series win against South Africa so I just want to keep scoring runs for the team – I feel very lucky that my performances across the last month have been rewarded and I hope to carry on my good form.”
In the first game of the series against South Africa in Northampton, Lamb hit her first ODI century. She then contributed scores of 67 and 65 in the following games to assist England in sweeping the series.
In addition, the 24-year-old took three wickets in the series decisive game in Leicester, capping off an outstanding month of international cricket. Lamb earned the Player of the Series honor for his 234 runs scored across the series, an average of 78 runs per game.
Lamb has experienced a meteoric ascent recently. She only recently made her Test and ODI debut for her nation earlier this year, and it appears that she only recently become a permanent member of England’s side after a strong stretch of play in July.
