#5 Lasith Malinga – 24.89
He featured in 4 ODI World Cups from 2007-19. Lasith Malinga played a starring role for the Lankan side in all these editions. His feat of picking up 4 wickets in 4 balls against South Africa in the 2007 World Cup continues to remain special. Malinga picked up 56 wickets in 29 World Cup games at an average of 22.88. His strike rate of 24.89 is top-notch! He conceded runs at 5.52 per over while his best match figure was 6-38.
#4 Shaun Tait – 24.09
He was one of the most underrated ODI seamers of his time. Shaun Tait played a huge part in Australia’s 2007 World Cup win. He played a total of 18 World Cup games across two editions in 2007 and 2011. Tait was Australia’s enforcer in the middle overs picking crucial wickets. He averaged 21.50 with the ball. Tait picked up 34 wickets in 18 games at a strike rate of 24.09. He conceded runs at 5.36 per over with best-match figures of 4-39.
#3 Brett Lee – 23.57
Coming in at number 3 is another Australian fast bowler, Brett Lee. He played in two World Cups (2003 and 2011) missing out in 2007 owing to injury. Lee was simply sensational in the 2003 World Cup wreaking havoc among the opposition. The fast wickets of South Africa aided his bowling style. Lee picked up 35 wickets in 17 matches at an average of 17.97. His best figures read 5-42. Lee’s strike rate of 23.57 is mighty impressive!

#2 Mitchell Starc – 19.12
He is already an all-timer in the ODI format. Mitchell Starc is the only bowler to top the wicket charts in two consecutive World Cups in 2015 and 2019. He was even awarded the player of the tournament in 2015 for his bowling exploits. Starc picked up 49 wickets in 18 games at an average of 14.82. His figures of 6-28 came in a low-scoring thriller against New Zealand where he almost managed to win the game for his side. Starc’s strike rate of 19.12 is flat-out brilliant!
#1 Mohammad Shami – 18.61
It might come across as a surprise that it is Mohammad Shami who tops this elite list. The Indian seamer has played two World Cups (2015 and 2019) picking 31 wickets in just 11 games. Shami was India’s strike bowler in the 2015 World Cup and he played a couple of games in the next edition. He even has a World Cup hat trick to his name as he bowled India to victory against Afghanistan in the last over. Shami’s strike rate of 18.41 is magnificent!
