BBL 2022-23 PS vs SS: Under challenging conditions, Perth Scorchers managed to scrape out an excellent victory at the Optus stadium. They had only managed to score 155 in their innings at the halfway point, and they were feeling hopeless. However, they bowled incredibly effectively to hold the potent Sixers batting order to just 117 runs and win the match by 38 runs.
BBL 2022-23 PS vs SS: Perth Scorchers Beat Sydney Sixers by 38 Runs.
Due to the loss of their starting lineup during the power play itself, the Sixers never really got going. They were in trouble at 31/5 at one point, but a 75-run sixth-wicket stand between Hayden Kerr and Jordan Silk helped them from looking foolish. For a significant portion of the innings, the pair kept them in contention, but when Hayden Kerr was removed in the 17th over, it precipitated a stunning collapse, as the bottom order buckled under pressure.
All of the bowlers for the Scorchers ended up in the wickets column, so they had a field day. The veteran Jason Behrendorff, who took two wickets during the powerplay, kicked off the march of wickets. The best bowler, though, was Jhye Richardson, who finished with incredible figures of 4/9 in his 4 overs. Given that he hadn’t played any cricket in the eight months leading up to this game, it was an incredible recovery from him.

Scorchers ended this game with a score of 155/9. Considering that they were floundering at 49/5 at one point, their turnaround has been pretty strong. They quickly lost their starting lineup, but it was the all-around play of Aaron Hardie and Ashton Agar that allowed them to win. Agar provided solid company with her score of 24, while Hardie played an exceptional innings of 55. In the end, they managed to squeeze beyond a challenging total thanks to contributions from the lower order as well.
BBL 2022-23 PS vs SS: Match Analyses
It took Hardie’s 32-ball 55 to give the Scorchers a total to defend after they lost their way and went a little too hard with the bat. And who can defend a total better than the Scorchers? Richardson and Behrendordff halted the pursuit early by taking three wickets while giving nothing away. The Sixers needed a partnership to resurrect them as well after losing half of their team for only 31. In the shape of Silk and Kerr, who put up 75 for the sixth wicket, that materialized.
However, in contrast to the Scorchers, the Sixers did not make the most of the 2-over power surge. Kerr was defeated by the imposing Richardson, Silk quickly followed, and the pursuit broke down. Richardson finished with a 4 for 9 total, and his bowling was something to behold. With a victory, the reigning champs are out and running, while the Sixers have suffered back-to-back defeats and must retreat.
