Perth Scorchers (Mat 13, won 10, lost 3, points 20, NRR +1.242)
Perth Scorchers is just unstoppable in the league this season. After starting the tournament with a win over Sydney Sixers they faced a defeat in the second game, but a four back-to-back wins then provided them the much-needed momentum, as a result they went on to win another 5 games in their next 7 and claimed the top spot heading into the finals race.
With 1 game still left to play, they may end up most likely at first spot, in a scenario if they losses their final match and the second placed Sydney Sixers win their last, Perth will end at second, still they will play the qualifier, who provides the winning team advantage to directly qualify for the finals, while the losing team will receive another chance to reach the finals.
Sydney Sixers (Mat 13, won 9, lost 3, points 19, NRR +0.846)
Sixers didn’t start the tournament on a note they wanted but they are ending the group stage in a way they and their fans anticipated. With 19 points on table and a game still left to play, the Sixers will definitely end up the group stage as a first or second placed team, and play the qualifier directly.
A late entry of veteran’s Steven Smith, who smashed an unbeaten 125 in the last game, also boosted their team’s morale to play during the final phase of the tournament.
Brisbane Heat (Mat 13, won 6, lost 6, points 13, NRR -0.530)
A roller-coaster ride so far in the league for Brisbane Heat didn’t hurt their chances to qualify for the finals race, they however failed to make it to the top-2, but the chances are high to end the group stage at third spot with a win in last game on Wednesday and the fourth placed Melbourne Renegades lost one of their remaining two games.
Melbourne Renegades (Mat 12, won 6, lost 6, points 12, NRR -0.047)
A 6-win 6-lose scenario in 12 games, provided the Renegades a chance to finish at third spot, which means they have to play the knockouts directly to reach the finals.
The road, however is not that simple to finish at third, they have to win their remaining two games, in that case they don’t need to depend on anyone, but if they lost their one of the two then they have to wait for the result of Brisbane Heat vs Hobart Hurricanes game on the last group stage day on Wednesday.
Sydney Thunder (Mat 13, won 6, lost 7, points 12, NRR -0.841)
Thunder may also finish at third, an unlikely stat for them but the doors are not fully closed. They will play the last game of the group stage on Wednesday, which provide them the advantage to play as per situation demands to finish inside the top-5.
Adelaide Strikers (Mat 13, won 5, lost 8, points 10, NRR -0.108)
No room to finish in top-3 for Adelaide Strikers, but the team will most likely to finish at either fourth or fifth spot. A defeat, however will eliminate them from the finals race though.
Even after starting the tournament with 3 consecutive wins, the Strikers failed to keep up with the momentum and only managed to win 2 out of their remaining 10.
Hobart Hurricanes (Mat 12, won 5, lost 7, points 10 NRR -0.300)
The Matthew Wade’s-led side also having a mixed season so far with 5 wins in 12 games, their chances are still on end at third spot, as the Hurricanes still having 2 games to play in the group stage.
A lost in their last match against Brisbane Heat make the path to finish inside top-3 tough for them, but the way to the finals is still visible for the Hurricanes side even with a single win.
Melbourne Stars (Mat 13, won 3, lost 10, points 6, NRR -0.270)
It’s done and dusted for the Melbourne Stars, who only managed to win just 3 games out of 13. Adam Zampa, who appointed as the skipper in place of injured Glenn Maxwell didn’t help the team find the right momentum in the league, despite some high moments in the season so far the team, the team didn’t play up to expectations, which led to their exclusion from this year’s playoff race.
