Zimbabwe Amasses 189, India to Chase 190 for Win

It’s finally time for the eagerly awaited series that was meant to see many familiar names return. With a captain who will return to international action after a lengthy absence and a few crucial players who will aim to distinguish themselves and garner attention, the young team is touring Zimbabwe.

India vs Zimbabwe 1st ODI 1st Innings Update

India and Zimbabwe meet for the first One Day International of the 3-match series today. Where after winning the toss, India elected to bowl first. Zimbabwe’s first innings did not go as they would like as they amassed a total of 189 runs putting up a target of 190 for India to chase.

The host Zimbabwe did not have the best opening as the team lost 4 wickets in the first 11 overs at the score of just 31. By the time team reached halfway mark, they had already lost 7 wickets and could score at a very low run rate.

None of the batters from the top 5 of the Zimbabwe batting lineup could make a mark as only Sikander Raza reached a double figure of 12 before getting out. It was skipper Regis Chakabva who made a hearty and struggling 35 runs off 51 balls before giving away his wicket in the 27th over.

There was no other batter who was able to sustain the Indian bowling attack that looked impressive. It was after the captain’s dismissal when the Zimbabwe fightback started as even after losing 8 wickets in 29 overs at the score of measly 110, the team went on to amass 79 runs in the next 11 overs.

Evans and Ngarava contributed to the tail wagging and added 70 jointly. India had trouble at that point coming up with solutions, and it appeared that Zimbabwe might surpass 200, which could have been psychologically advantageous. It was only a matter of time after a flawless Prasidh yorker castled Ngarava.

With three wickets each, Deepak Chahar and Axar Patel bowled out Zimbabwe for 189. Chahar got things started by bowling seven consecutive overs for an outstanding 3/27. The heat from his swinging deliveries was unbearable. Axar Patel dismissed captain Regis Chakabva despite his efforts to fight back.

India now has to chase 190 runs which looks like an easy total. Zimbabwe will try their best to restrict India and it will be on India how quickly they reach the target and finish off the match.
