The Women’s Premier League 2025 is set to commence on 14th February 2025, With the first match between the defending Champions Royal Challengers Banglore and Gujarat Giants. As the WPL starts, we ask a question, Who are the title contenders for WPL 2025.
Squad Updates
UP Warriorz have signed Chinelle Henry as a replacement for Alyssa Healy in the 2025 WPL after Healy was ruled out due to a stress injury in her right foot. Healy, who missed the T20I leg of the Women’s Ashes and passed a late fitness test for the Test match is set to miss the WPL and the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand.
Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore have recruited Heather Graham and Kim Garth as replacements for Sophie Devine and Kate Cross. Devine is taking a break, and Cross is recovering from a back injury. Garth, an experienced bowler, and Graham, a WBBL standout, will add depth to RCB’s squad.
Gujarat Giants have also named Ashleigh Gardner as their new captain for WPL 2025, succeeding Beth Mooney. Gardner, a key all-rounder for Australia, is eager to lead her team with a mix of young and experienced talent.
Contender for WPL 2025 Title?
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Capitals will look to challenge for the title of the upcoming WPL 2025. Royal Challengers Bengaluru had a great auction in December 2024, Smriti Mandhana who led the Bengaluru franchise to their first WPL title, will aim to sustain and squad and safeguard their title.
On the other hand, last year’s runner-ups and table toppers Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians will aim to challenge the defending champions for the title. Both the franchises have a decent squad to run a title-winning campaign, if the Royal Challengers Bengaluru find a good balance in their squad they can sustain their title and set their sights for a 2-peat.
