SS-W vs AS-W Highlights for Womens Big Bash League 2024 

Adelaide Strikers recorded their first win in WBBL 2024-25 by defeating Sydney Sixers by 11 runs in the fifth match of the season on Tuesday. So let’s take a look at SS-W vs AS-W Highlights.

The Strikers made a solid comeback in the game during the last four overs. With Sydney only required 33 in last four overs with seven wickets in hand, and their top run-scorer present in the middle, the Strikers bowlers not only allowed 21 more runs but took six wickets to hand their side a win.

Invited to bat, the Adelaide Strikers witnessed a shaky start, as they lost three for just 22 in 3.1 overs.   

Laura Wolvaardt was playing steadily before Perry’s unplayable delivery sent her back to pavilion.

Bridget Petterson and Orla Prendergast then added 54 for the fifth that broke the Strikers back into the game. Petterson left the crease after scoring 44 off 32, while Prendergast played a knock of 39 off 31.  

Amanda Jade Wellington, who came in at number 5, changed the scenario of the match with her quick-fire 16-ball 40 that guided the Adelaide Strikers to 171 in 20 overs.  

The all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner was excellent with the ball in the match as she bagged a four-wicket haul while giving 32 in her four overs. Apart from her Lauren Cheatle and she took three wickets, while skipper Elysse Perry grabbed two.  

Sydney Sixers require 172 in 20 overs 

Chasing a target of 172, Sydney Sixers posted 86 for 2 during the halfway stage of the run-chase despite losing their first wicket in the second over.  

Skipper Perry was the aggressor during the second wicket partnership and scored 54 off 28 before getting out in the tenth over of the chase. 

Ashleigh Gardner’s poor run with the bat continued as she went back to pavilion without scoring a run.

Sarah Bryce played a solid knock for Sydney during the run-chase with 62 off 44 but as soon as she got out when Sixers were required 32 off the final 22 balls with six wickets in hand, Sydney faced a collapse and fell 11 runs short of the target.  

Player of the match  

Amanda Jade Wellington was awarded the player of the match award for her last overs’ heroics with the bat (16-ball 40), and a two-wicket spell with the ball.
