WI Vs BAN: Bangladesh beat West Indies by 6 wickets

Bangladesh defeated West Indies by 6 wickets in the 1st ODI of the 3-match series in Guyana.

After multiple inspections, due to wet outfield, the toss was held late and the game was reduced to 41 overs. Bangladesh’s bowlers took a full benefit of after rain conditions and restricted West Indies to just 149 and later the visitors chased down the target with 6 wickets in hand to collect their first victory on tour.

Apart from Shamarh Brooks, who scored a 66-ball 33, no other batters showed any signs of staying at the crease as a result the hosts failed to even touch the 150-mark.

Earlier, after winning the toss Bangladesh opted to bowl, and they proved their decision right by removing the dangerous Shai Hope in the second over. Sharmah Brooks did try to put up a partnership first with Kyle Mayers, then with Brandon King but it was not the day for West Indies batters.

The hosts lost half of their side when they were at 74. The other batters added 75 more after that to give Bangladesh an unchallenging 150-run target.

Bangladesh was able to restrict the Windies to 149/9 in 41 overs with the help of Shoriful Islam and Mehidy Hasan, who each recorded figures of 4/31 and 3/36, respectively.

Bangladesh reached the target with 55 balls to spare, scoring 151 for 4 in 31.5 overs. Mahmudullah top-scored with an unbeaten 41 off 69 deliveries, and Najmul Hossain Shanto hit a 46-ball 37.

Chasing a target of 150, Bangladesh too lost the opener Litton Das early. But then the skipper Tamim Iqbal Najmul Hossain Shanto steadied their boast before Iqbal got run-out.

Then came Mahmudullah on crease, who remained till the very end. Mahmudullah scored an unbeaten 41, while Nurul Hasan remained not out at 20 to hand their team a win in the series opener. Bangladesh chased down the target with 55 balls to spare.

With this victory, Bangladesh recorded their first win on the tour of West Indies. Previously, West Indies, the hosts outlasted Bangladesh in both Tests and the T20I series 2-0.

The second ODI of the three-match series will be played at the same venue on July 13.
